Arthur Kleinman
Arthur Kleinman is Rabb Professor of Anthropology and Professor of Global Health and Social Medicine and Psychiatry at Harvard. A China scholar, he introduced the modern idea of depression into Chinese society. A clinical psychiatrist, he has worked extensively on patient-doctor and family-doctor relationships in the U.S. and cross-culturally. He has published 40 books and more than 350 articles, including The Soul of Care, What Really Matters, The Illness Narratives and Culture, Illness and Care. He has been at Harvard for 49 years and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His current research is on Social Technology for Eldercare in China and in the U.S.
