Harald Nusser

Vice President, Global Health and Health Equity, Merck

Dr. Harald Nusser joined Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany in June 2024 as the Head of Global Health & Health Equity.

Harald has extensive global and local experience in health equity and social business approaches. His expertise includes Family Planning, Malaria, HIV, Leprosy, Visceral Leishmaniasis, Viral Hepatitis and Schistosomiasis as well as various non-communicable diseases. He views Public Private Partnerships and a people centered perspective key to strengthen Primary Healthcare Service delivery.

In previous roles he has been VP of R&D Portfolio Management and Strategic Planning in Bayer Healthcare, a Managing Director in Slovakia, and a regional VP in Bayer Healthcare as well as Gilead Sciences overseeing countries in Latin America, Africa, Central and Eastern Europe as well as South-East Asia. During his six years at Novartis, he established the unit Novartis Social Business with both direct country responsibilities as well as Communicable and Non-Communicable disease verticals for which he was awarded as Corporate Social Intrapreneur from the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship in 2019.

Harald also serves as a Board Member of Pathfinder International, a Global Ambassador for the G20 Health & Development Partnership and was a founding board member of the UNITAR hosted Defeat-NCD Partnership.
